I don't think I am overtraining, cause I perform the splits very rarely: once i a week. The problem is when I do the splits with a warm-up. It seems that only then I am sore. I want to understand the mechanicanism. Does anyone knows why??? I have no idea why you're sorer with a warm-up. Eith...

Re: Question

Hello sports fanatics :D I have a question regarding warm-up and splits. This often occurs to me when I perform my stretching routine: I do the warm-up and afterwards the front and side split. That being said, I have a problem. Everytime I do such routine, i always end-up with muscle soreness, most...

Re: Butterfly Stretch?

sounds extremely dangerous to me.

the butterfly stretch (or groin stretch I think its sometimes called) stretches the same muscles as the side split. To say that not being able to do a 'flat' butterfly/groin stretch means you will never be able to do the side split is absolute rubbish.

Liked both routines, but found yours far more inspiring. Thanks!

I second dragon's suggestion. I found it almost impossible to get my thighs parallel to the floor for a long time, even with quite a narrow horse stance. Perseverance paid off though. Simply practising and focusing on deep breathing helps a lot.

Cycling is great for conditioning and fitness. If you want to maintain/improve your flexibility at the same time, just make sure you do a daily stretching routine (dynamic leg raises in particular).

I do gymnastics and it sounds like you are probably having difficulty maintaining your balance and handstand form during the transition (ie. keeping your abs tucked in). Try practising handstand push-ups using the GTG (Grease That Groove) method. In other words, do a few handstand pushups every hour...

Re: best routine for abs toning

any sugestions for the best exercise for abs toning, i was doing situps, but im wondering if there is anything more effective? I never do sit-ups. I do V-sits, farmer burns, vacuum. Done daily these are all extremely good for toning the abs. The abs are a very important part of the core stability m...

I'm interested in back bridge with hands on the floor. I did some reading on the topic mostly from Matt Furey and Mark Mahler. But I prefer to hear it from people's personal experience, before I jump into it, you know, what are the real benefits, and most important is there any risk for damaging th...

My understanding is that if you exercise & work your your hands intensely (especially if you are a martial artist and are always making fists, doing press-ups on knuckles and fingertips etc) then it is a good idea to "crack your knuckles" from time to time to relax & loosen the joints and actually a...

Re: Newbee Help? Suggestions

In 10 mins every morning you can do dynamic leg raises as described in Mr. Kurz's book. If you are not doing this already it may make a big difference to your kicking ability.

Re: GTG stretching - for Mr Kurz and everybody

I would have thought that isometric contractions were too intense to be done that frequently. Perhaps holding a horse posture for 20 seconds every half hour? I'd be very interested to know if doing dynamic stretches or relaxed stretches every hour would improve dynamic or static flexibility respecti...

Books such as Thomas Kurz's Stretching Scientifically and Pavel Tsatsouline's equivalent (I forget what its called) will explain all these and much more. It's far too big a subject for a forum topic.

Re: dynamic flexibility

Hello. I noticed interesting thing about my dynamic flexibillity. I completely stoped performing leg swings in the morning about 5-6 month ago. Now I perform them only at the beginning of my workouts as part of my warm up (2 times a week). And I still have all dynamic flexibillity needed for high k...
