Hi Brad What I suggest you do is: 1) Write down your full normal weekly workout plan (what do you do on Monday - at what time and in what order. Eg do you do a morning, afternoon and/or evening workout?). 2) When you have your full plan, compare it to the advice given in the articles by Mr Kurz at h...

What is your specific goal? From what you say, you need to perform something? Do you want to be able to do front splits (ie static movement) in 4 months? or be able to perform some move as a part of a kata/form that involves splits (ie dynamic movement?) Also what is your current stretching/strength...

Good idea! and yes I imagine you'd need to make sure your legs are strong enough to train on a slippery surface like that to control the stretching. Sounds like a good strength builder too. Will give it a go!
Thanks Crazyboy

barefoot on grass?

I find socks work well on carpet, in that you can slide more easily. i should try it that way again.
Thanks

I think the key focus you should have is on training and consistency, rather than an inch a week. The reason I say this is that your body can be inconsistent. Some weeks you will not get your 1 inch, others you may. By focusing on an inch a week, you may end up hurting yourself and also become disco...

Floor surface for stretching

This may seem a strange topic, but I find that the surface i stretch on, makes a big diference (centimetres!) in my stretching. I usually stretch barefoot on carpet, but also do it with shoes on grass and also sometimes on carpet in socks... All of these result in my feet sticking at a certain point...

so you do cycling then, static stretching followed by dynamic stretching? If so then you are certainly not following any of the training principles taught by Mr Kurz. 1) Regular cycling can lead to regulating the length of muscles to be the length required for cycling (ie shorten them) 2) Static str...

you say it is a warm-up...but a warm up for what? You say you cycle in a gym, therefore is this a warmup for a weights workout? or a stretching workout?

If you look at the posts mmeloon pointed you towards, you'll see that cycling too much can impact your flexibility.

I totally agree about the lack of real fighting skills in these displays. However i must say it appears to be a great way to make money out of something you love doing. I am very much into the reality of fighting, however it must be great fun to get paid to do the things they do. afterall what they ...
