Stretching too often or too hard counterproductive?

Post by Cmorg00 »

I've read from a lot of sources on stretching for the front and side splits and there seems to be a lot of different opinions out there.

What would be considered the right amount of stretching to do. 15 minute sessions? 30? Once per day? Twice? Or just once every other day? Sometimes i'm a little too enthusiastic. I'd like to make as much progress as I can, I understand the concept that more isn't always better.

How long should one stretch for each day to obtain the front and side splits, before it becomes counter productive? Do I need rest days? I also lift weights 4 times a week.

Currently I start with 5-10 minutes of dynamic stretches and then move on to a few static stretches, followed by attempting to do both front splits, then sidesplits, i'll spend up to a couple minutes gradually edging as deep as I can into each split. I try to do this a few times a day, every day, this is where I wonder if i am over doing it.
