Not read the book(or listened to the CD's) myself, but reading the write up on it i would say it is applicable to other sports.

From what it says, the material doesn't cover physical techniques for combat competitions. It only covers the phychological aspect which would be the same whether you are competing in a fight or competing in a race.

My main interest is developing the ability to control my level of arousal.

I want to be able to restrict my nervousness when approaching a competition and have more confidence in stress.

I have the book and CDs (just got them last week..so can't comment on if they have helped me or not yet...) I would say they can be used for any sport. The focus of the mental workouts is to keep one relaxed and focused in competition. For example, one of the workouts on the CD includes relaxation and focus exercieses with the common noises found in competition arenas (crowds cheering etc) in the background. The program seems to be in 2 parts... one part teaches basic mental preparation skills and the other part is more focused on applying them in stressful situations. Seems good... now time to try it out!

Gold Medal Mental Workout

Thanks for your comments and examples for this question, Kit! From the questions posed, it seems that focus and emotional control during competition are areas of mental training that challenge us all. For me, as an -ahem- aging athlete, I am looking for any legitimate edge I can find to continue and succeed in "masters" judo competition.

Please share your results. I look forward to ordering the material. While I understand and respect the tangible results of the European athletes, I am curious to know more about the results of students of this program here in the U.S.

I did the general mental preparation and am very pleased with the results, I am amazed how good the relaxation exercises work. Initially it was very weird to me and my slight scepticism held me a little back but after I experienced how I could really feel the relaxation, any trace of scepticism towards the exercises vanished

I never used the log however, I tried it once but was unable to put it into words without making it look silly :?
any tips for the log?

I must admit i haven't used the log either - I have looked at it and thought about the info there, but haven't bothered to write it down. as for whether this is detrimental to the training, I am not sure, but i would guess it isn't. I think that the log is more to keep you 'on track' with practice, but the actual skills learned in practice can be used later without the log.. so learning the skills through daily practice is the main thing i think.
