I'm training hard to reach my sidesplits.
I'm almost there, I just need about 5 more cm.
I can already touch the ground in 180 degrees but I can't hold it, because my knees are really painful in this kind of position.
(my groin is comfortable with the stretch, so it's definitely my knees which causes the problem)
* I'm on this 5 cm level for about 3 months now, without getting any further... simply because my knees are too painfull and wouldn't let me to push further.
Now I was searching for answers on the internet and tried some glucosamine-pills, in order to make the joints a bit smoother (because I thought that maybe my knee-joints are a bit stiff). After 5 weeks there is still no improvement in the knee-pain.
Today I tried doing splits with my legs in a 90 degree angle (feet pointing backwards), and I feel that the stress on my knees is WAAAAYYYY less!!
So the problem only occurs when my leg is fully extended.
- I started surfing the internet again and found an article about the "sartorius muscle".
After reading some info and studying the pics of the muscle, I'm thinking that MAYBE (I'm not sure) my sartorius muscle is the problem.
-----------------------
How can I be sure if it is indeed my sartorius?
If it's not my sartorius, how can I find out what muscle is the problem??
And above all... how can I fix it, what kind of exercises should I try?
I realy hope some1 can help me out, thanks.

Glucosamine can help joints but they aren't flexibiltiy pills. They won't give you a better range of motion than a normal joint.Also,5 weeks isn't enough time to see improvement.Iceman wrote:Now I was searching for answers on the internet and tried some glucosamine-pills, in order to make the joints a bit smoother (because I thought that maybe my knee-joints are a bit stiff). I've been taking 2000mg of glucosamine for quite a while to help the joints that are a bit creaky and as a preventative measure for my healthy ones.
I can't help with your splits question as i don't really understand the description:-feet pointing backwards for example.Iceman wrote:Today I tried doing splits with my legs in a 90 degree angle (feet pointing backwards), and I feel that the stress on my knees is WAAAAYYYY less!!
