iliotibial band syndrome

Post by pliskin »

Does anyone had it. Can you have it from side split training? I suspect that i manage to overwork my left iliotibial band.

Hi.

Get to a doctor and get a proper diagnosis. You might also want to read the information here:

http://www.itbs.info/

I once had excessively tight I.T. bands on both legs, which caused bad knee pain. They loosened up quickly when I got some sports massages.

Cheers

Illiotibial Band injury

I just happened respond to something you wrote in 2006 on another thread, but I see the issue persists.

I had the same injury once. A Physical Therapist suggested both rehabilitative exercise and massage.

Massage was accomplished by my resting my hip on a 2-3 inch diameter styrofoam cylinder and pulling my body weight across it (rolling the cylinder along the floor, my body weight pressing on it the length of my leg, hip to knee).

The following link has excellent info on specific rehabilitative exercises: http://www.med.umich.edu/1libr/sma/sma_knee-ili_sma.htm .

Best regards,
Cindy

Thanx elskbrev for the advices/links.
Yes i had issues with my left itb band/underneath pain on the left side of the left knee for more than a year, and i was looking for answers for my problem like crazy. So now i stopped some lower body activities except swimming and cycling i have stretched the itb bands everyday and the problem gone away :) :) :)

Main causes for my itb band problem was wrong stretching/kicking body alignment and technique. Sleeping on my left side with straight leg also know good to tighten up my itb band and cause hip/knee pain. (Bad sitting posture , leg crossing while sitting also cause itb tightening)
I needed more than a year to figure these things out, but i had no professional help by my side just the internet to read on.
Anyway it is all fine now. Will try to return doing high kicks again but with caution.
