Chronic muscle/tendon/bursa soreness

Post by REG »

Hello, I am back again! Recently, I began to deal with a chronic soreness problem on my right shoulder. I actually have been having this soreness since about 3-4 months ago. It started out being very sore, but not necessarily painful. I can't accurately remember how and when this started, although I think it might have been from accidentally running into a wall at home with my shoulder about a few months ago. Another possibility could be from the accumulated practice of martial arts techniques such as multiple punches, shoulder rolls, break back falls, high falling, etc. These are my guesses. Also, I am not exactly sure if what I have is shoulder bursitis, tendonitis, or a slight muscle strain within my right shoulder girdle. A few weeks ago, I spoke with my general internist over the phone about my situation. However, he said that it didn't seem like I needed to have a medical examination from him since the problem didn't sound that bad, along with the fact that I am a pretty healthy and fit young man. He suggested instead to just rest it with ice/heat and that I can continue exercising, but make sure not to overdo it with my right shoulder. I have been using heat therapy (with ThermaCare heat wraps) since the past two weeks which has actually been helping in reducing the soreness. My question, however, is that since my right shoulder still feels somewhat sore and not painful, is it okay to continue using my right shoulder during exercises such as push ups, punches, rolls, rows, etc., or should I let it totally rest until the soreness is completely gone?
