vegetarian or vegan diet and nutrition

Post by jrlefty »

Are there any vegetarian or vegan athletes on this message board that can help me find the right diet and nutrition program? I am slowly trying to do away with meat in my diet and i'm finding it hard to find the right foods to eat. Is there a book or at least a website that talks about specific diets for vegetarians and vegans who also do sports?

That's interessting... I'm a pesco vegetarian myself, but not an expert. But I recommend that you just get your protein from sources like nuts, some specific vegtables and things like tofu. I don't know if you eat cheese or milk? Are you a vegetarian or a vegan? If the first you can take cheese, milk and eggs, which are fine imo... If you're a vegan, I guess soy milk can be good. Also try searching vegetarian bodybuilders for example, you'll get lists of what they eat. They always contain lots of nuts, wheat milk, soy, etc. If you still eat fish, like me, you can also add fish oil capsules as a supplement.

Thanks Felix

As of right now I am just trying to go vegetarian because I LOVE cheese even though I know too much is bad for you. I have also been eating eggs about three times a week with just the egg whites. I drink one percent milk because no one in my house wants to try soy or almond milk. I also love tofu and my girlfriends mother makes a good dish with mixed vegetables. I still for right now am limiting my meat to chicken, some turkey and fish for at most four meals a week, usually around dinner time. Soon I hopefully will just phase it out entirely and only have small portions of it during family gatherings.

I checked out some vegetarian bodybuilders diets and they all said about the same thing. Eat plenty of nuts, fruits and veges. I did find this website with Mike Mahler and I thought anyone who is even slightly interested in how vegetarians and vegans eat and still train hard should check this website out.
