The Problem with Fruit….

Post by Moni-T »

My personal trainer, Stadion and all the books that Stadion recommend say the same thing about carbs. Get them from fruits and vegetables. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

And I agreed when I first read them that this seems makes sense. However, after about 6 months of eating like this I began to ask myself a question over and over. How the hell do you stop massive acid erosion and gum disease from eating all that fruit?

I am very proud of my teeth – nothing in my mouth my teeth and tongue. No fillings, caps or false teeth. But when I went to my dentist he could not understand how his best patient who does not eat any sweets suddenly got the beginning of gum disease and acid erosion. I told him about my fruit intake and he told me to immediately stop.

So I guess what I’m saying yes I agree with eating masses of vegetables, especially green vegetables, but why do all the reputable sources insist on eating fruit that damages your teeth?

I think you need to really understand the affects on the body of eating meat and dairy products (e.g. disease, premature aging, etc) - check out NotMilk.com for more info and affects of meat and dairy on environment, ecomony, etc. If you eat a diet of mostly fruits, it is suggested that you brush after each meal because of the afftects of acidic fruits on the teeth. But in short the choice is yours - disease or brush more.

If you want to read more, try "The Live Food Factor: A Comprehensive Guide to the Ultimate Diet for Body, Mind, Spirit & Planet" by Susan Schenck. She covers a lot including the affects of fruit on teeth and the pros and cons of different vegetarian and vegan diets. Also, check out http://foodnsport.com/blog/diet.html and Dr. Douglas Graham. His free articles and books may provide even more insight.

Hope this helps
