Flexibility development for older athletes
Suggestions on training methods for a 49 year old martial arts instructor would be appreciated. Specifically on how to do a better job of working towards a split. I am slowly iimproving on a front split but not on a side split. What does it mean when on a side split I feel some pain on the inside of the knee, and am I making a mistake when on the front split I feel some pain on the back of the knee of the front leg??
I am a 49 year old martial artist with 32 years & 5 black belts. I teach Tang Soo Do with a little Wado-ryu. Being 49 I can always use suggestions on training methods that work for my age without overdoing it.

It sounds like your knees need some conditioning.
