Problem area stretching tips

Post by gitbro »

I am 36, generally in good shape and a student of Northern Seven Stars Praying Mantis. My limitation is my hip and groin flexibility. I do a basic stretch routine 4 times per week, but have seen no progress in the aforementioned areas over an 8 month period. I know that it will take a while, but I would like to educate myself on a "best practices" routine. Is there a specific book, training facility or video that I should start with? Thanks for the guidance.

I'd start by reading all the article on the Stadion website.
This will give you an insight to the stretching methods that most people advocate on this forum.
If your stretching methods are completely different then a good place to start is the book Stretching Scientifically. This will provide you with all the information about the correct methods/timing of your stretching routine.

The DVD Secrets of Stretching, has more information on strengthening exercises and is useful as a visual guide for the stretching techniques described in Stretching Scientifically.

Hope this helps,

Dragon
