weight training and musical instrument practice - effects

Post by Eugeni »

I wanted to know what sort of effects a modest weight training program would have on piano practice? I practice piano daily but would like to add deadlifts on a routine basis for health reasons.

What impact will the deadlifts or any sort of weight training, have on my dexterity? Is there "too much" weight training? I am speaking of course of training in the arms and shoulders, not the mid or lower body.

How about ballistic training? For example kettlebell training? Would this sort of training also impact upon my dexterity?

Thanks in advance.

Training is not a one time event--it is a process with many variables that can be controlled.

I see, Mr. Kurtz... so in other words, "Do it and see what happens".

Adjust intensity and duration (and recovery/nutrition/rest) to balance out the manual dexterity requirements with strength goals? I'll try such a program carefully increasing intensity and duration and report back.

Thank you.
