beginning strength exercise

Post by cailifo »

in the articles on this site it says to start by strengthening the core- the abdomen and back. but i also want to start strengthening my legs more in preparation for isometrics.

basically then, if i'm doing my crunches, the sit-ups, and back extensions all with no extra weights, is it also okay to do squats, lunges, dead lifts, and good mornings also without weights?

as i read in the book stretching scientifically, doing these exercises in 3 sets of at least 30 reps will help strengthen the muscles. (but starting out i probably wont even do that much. i did that in squats, shoulder width apart, all the way down and up slowly with pauses at the top and bottom. my quads were faintly sore the next day though.)

i guess my question is, for a beginner is it okay to do the no-weight leg exercises at the same time as developing the core?

and if so, should i do all the leg exercises before the core exercises within a given workout- so as not to fatigue the stabilizers first?

I too have a the same question. I just rec'd Mr. Kurz book and DVD. I need to strengthen my core, on the DVD it says that you should be able to do a couple hundred sit up before you begin the exercises for the beginners. Is that true or can I start the exercises slowly to start building up my legs. Please advise.

Can Mr. Kurz answer this post regarding a beginner doing lunges without weights?

I purchased the book & DVD. I’m out of shape, but working on building my core. I know based on Column #19 it’s OK for a beginner to do squats.

But I’m wondering if lunges without weights are OK, since it seems that the program calls for a strong core before starting to work the adductors?
